Stone Town; Arrive into Zanzibar Airport/Harbour. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the heart of Stone Town where your hotel is located. You could relax and familiarize yourself with the new home or be go out for city tour
In the morning your tour (on foot) will focus on the western part of stone town. The buildings were constructed during the 19th century (although some date from before this time), when Zanzibar was a major trading center and at the height of its power. Later you will transfer to Prison Island a.k.a Changuu Island which is just off the coast of Stone Town (20-30 minutes by boat). Now a tourist attraction, Prison Island was once a place where slaves were detained and at one point, it also served as a place of quarantine. There is a small sandy beach on the Island where one can peacefully relax and sunbathe or if prefer to snorkel, the boat will take you a few meters off shore where you can disembark into deeper water with a small area of coral.
In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and go to the world-famous spice farms where you will spend 2 to 3 hours. Along the way, you will learn about the rich history of the island and how the island got its nickname “The spice Island”. You will learn about growing and harvesting spice plants. Later you will head to Jozani forest, a natural reserve which lies 35 km South East from Zanzibar City between Chawaka Bay and Uzi Bay. The forest is a great place to encounter many indigenous varieties of flora and fauna, including the Zanzibari Red Colobus Monkey, Blue Sykes’ Monkeys, Bush Pigs, Aders Duiker Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, Chameleons and numerous birds and butterflies.
Tour begins after breakfast when you are picked up from your hotel and transferred to the fishing village of Kizimkazi. Before the tour starts, you will be given a life jacket demonstration followed by a briefing on the day’s excursion. You will then board the dhows and set off in search of the Dolphins (85% chances). The species frequently found at Menai Bay are Spinner and Bottlenose dolphins. You will be able to swim with the dolphins as long as they stay close to the boat, but is unlikely to be able to touch them, as they are of course wild animals. During the tour, the guide will send youto one of the selected snorkeling locations. On the way to your hotel you will have an opportunities to visit the site of a 12th Century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, and is thus worth a visit for both natural and cultural reasons
Today is your departure day and after breakfast we transfer you back to the airport for your return international flight to complete your journey.
